Wolves set for defender decision ahead of summer recruitment

The defender is attracting attention from other clubs.

Wolves are expected to sell at least one of their left-backs this summer, the Express & Star understands.

Hugo Bueno and David Moller Wolfe both battled it out on the left flank last season, with Bueno often preferred as Wolves utilised a back five and wing-backs.

Cesar Peixoto has regularly used a 4-2-3-1 formation in his managerial career and both Bueno and Wolfe can play as a left-back in that system.

But it is unlikely that both players will stay with Wolves for next season, with both keen to play regularly.

Bueno is also attracting interest from other clubs, with Newcastle having a long-standing admiration for the Spaniard and Italian side Fiorentina the latest side to express interest.

It is understood that there has been no formal approach from Fiorentina and no talks with Wolves and that their early interest has come between intermediaries behind the scenes.

It also remains to be seen if Newcastle will make a move, but it is understood a number of clubs are looking at Bueno as a potential option this summer.

The academy graduate made 38 appearances last season and 35 in the Premier League, putting in consistent performances despite the team struggling as they were relegated with a 20th-placed finish.

Wolfe signed for Wolves last summer in a £10million deal but failed to take the number one spot from Bueno, making just 11 Premier League starts.

Italian side Roma tabled a low offer to sign Wolfe in January, which was swiftly rejected, while Wolves also turned down a deadline day offer of around £14million from Nottingham Forest.

The 24-year-old is currently away with Norway at the World Cup and started their first two group games, picking up one assist, as they booked their place in the round of 32.

Wolfe is also expected to attract some interest this summer and Wolves are likely to sell at least one of their left-back options, while they are expected to recruit in that area for next season.
