Wolves set for decision on loanee centre-back

Nasser Djiga has spent the season on-loan at Rangers.

Nasser Djiga is expected to return to Wolves this summer to be assessed ahead of next season, the Express & Star understands.

The 23-year-old has spent the whole campaign on loan at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, but is likely to return to Wolves this summer to give head coach Rob Edwards the opportunity to run the rule over the centre-back.

The Express & Star understands that reports claiming Rangers have an £8million option to buy Djiga are wide of the mark and the Glasgow club are unlikely to shell out the fee necessary to buy Djiga permanently.

Wolves spent £10million to sign the defender in January 2025 and he is expected to report back at Wolves this summer, to give Edwards and the club a chance to assess him and decide the player's future.

Djiga only made six appearances for Wolves last season after joining from Red Star Belgrade, five of which came in the Premier League.

He only managed one start, however, against Crystal Palace in a game the defender struggled in and was brought off by former boss Vitor Pereira at half-time.

That prompted a loan move last summer, with Wolves keen for Djiga to play regularly, adapt to British culture and improve his English skills.

The player was also eager to play more regularly, having made 27 appearances for Red Star in the first half of last season, including eight in the Champions League.

Djiga initially failed to make any impact for Russell Martin's Rangers and was sent off in just his fifth game for the club, but he has since improved under new boss Danny Rohl.

The Burkina Faso international has now claimed a regular first team place and has made 36 appearances for the club in all competitions.

They now have six matches remaining in their hunt for the top flight title.
