Wolves sack Rob Edwards and set for new head coach appointment

Wolves will have a new boss going into pre-season.

Wolves have sacked head coach Rob Edwards and are set to appoint Cesar Peixoto as his replacement.

Edwards was informed this morning (Thursday) of the decision, despite the club this week announcing the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.

The club are now moving for Peixoto, who currently manages Portuguese side Gil Vicente.

Edwards was told of the decision over the phone, with him currently abroad on his holidays.

It is understood the 43-year-old has been working on Wolves’ summer recruitment plans and was not expecting the decision.

Edwards was heavily involved in the signing of Trippier and the player himself referenced Edwards’ passion as a reason he arrived at the club.

Andre was also full of praise for Edwards when he signed his new deal, with the pair understood to have a strong relationship, while Edwards featured in the announcement video for Jimenez’s return on Tuesday night.

Peixoto, 46, now arrives having only ever managed in the Portuguese league system.

He is represented by Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, who have a close relationship with Wolves owners Fosun.
