The 22-year-old academy midfielder enjoyed loans at Plymouth and Stoke last season and almost left permanently for £2million in January.

But he is now back with Wolves and has played a big part in pre-season, with his future up in the air.

“I don’t know that yet,” Cundle said when asked if he will stay with Wolves. “I’m just taking it day by day and I’m sure we’ll have a chat, maybe in the next couple of weeks. We’ll see.”

When asked if he would like to stay with the club, he added: “Obviously, I’d be delighted.

“But there’s a lot of things to take into account, all I can do is do my best every time I get the chance to play.”

Cundle has started both friendlies against West Ham and Crystal Palace in America with Joao Gomes returning late.

The midfielder has impressed on the pitch, while head coach Gary O’Neil has been complimentary of his attitude.

“I’ve really enjoyed it, not just on the pitch but off it as well with all the lads,” Cundle added. “The group is really good and I think that’s down to the manager and staff. Him (O’Neil) and his staff are great, especially with the detail they put in on the training pitch.

“It’s a really comfortable environment to work in. I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s a very easy environment to work in and I know most of the lads anyway, there’s only a couple new faces to me.

“I’m enjoying it and taking it day by day. Whenever I play, I try my best every time and see what I end up. I’m playing kind of a different position to where I played last year.

“I’m enjoying it, I like being behind the ball facing the game, I think it’s one of my strengths as a footballer. I’m enjoying it.

“I’ve enjoyed playing with Mario and Tommy. They’re all good players.

“At the back as well the lads speak to you from behind and there’s some great forward players in there, so I think it will be a really strong team this season.”

Cundle made his first Premier League start for Wolves in February 2022 before heading out on three different loan spells.

Looking back on how he has changed from that player more than two years ago, Cundle added: “There’s a lot of differences!

“I’ve come on a lot more as a player now and I’m more confident on the pitch in general, to demand from others as well.

“I’ve learned different aspects of the game, especially on the defensive side as the Championship is quite tough and demanding of you physically sometimes playing three games a week. It’s difficult mentally as well as physically and I’ve learned the defensive side a lot better.

“I’ve always been good on the ball but I’m more of an all-round player now.

“I don’t mind new faces or changing rooms, I’ve done that growing up and it doesn’t faze me. I actually enjoy it.”
