Wolves in £1.5m striker bid

Wolves today made a £1.5m bid to lure 13-goal striker Sylvain Ebanks-Blake from Plymouth.

Molineux officials want former Manchester United trainee Ebanks-Blake to beef up their goal-shy forward line.

Ebanks-Blake has bagged 13 goals in all competitions this season and his 11 Championship strikes put him joint third in the division's goalscoring charts behind Kevin Phillips of Albion and Sheffield United's James Beattie.

Stephen Elliott remains Wolves' leading scorer with four goals and manager Mick McCarthy is now keen to add extra competition up front.

Ebanks-Blake moved to Home Park from Old Trafford for £200,000 18 months ago having made just two appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson's side the League Cup, scoring once.

But he has become a goalscoring hit in Devon, hitting 21 goals in 49 League starts and forming a impressive partnership this season with Barry Hayles, who moved to Leicester at the start of the transfer window.

Wolves will hope for a speedy response from the Pilgrims with McCarthy already stating his desire to avoid a frantic scramble for signings in the final days of the January transfer window.

Meanwhile reports linking Wolves with Nottingham Forest midfielder Kris Commons were said to be wide of the mark today.
