Wolves have already made bids for "several" of their top transfer targets, chief executive Jez Moxey confirmed for the first time today. The Molineux men are locked in discussions with a number of clubs as they attempt to seal the first transfer business of the summer – but are refusing to be drawn on exactly when they will add to the squad. Wolves are working in a transfer market that has yet to take off. With key club officials from rival teams on holiday, deals are taking time – but Wolves are keen to add to the team before pre-season gets under way at the start of next month.
Despite Steve Morgan's impending £30million cash injection, Wolves will stick to their stated goal of not paying over the odds for their targets – and the summer hit list is believed to comprise of mostly "young and hungry" players with plenty to prove.
Up front Wolves have made offers for Scunthorpe forward Billy Sharp and Southend goal ace Freddy Eastwood – and are eyeing a target man to complement their existing options.
Middlesbrough's highly-rated winger Adam Johnson is a priority on the left of midfield, with Chelsea starlet Scott Sinclair another option if Jose Mourinho is prepared to allow him to leave on loan.
But in defence – where Wolves are targeting a pacey stopper – the situation is still not clear. McCarthy was keen on Portsmouth's Andy O'Brien – but his probable wage demands appear to have scuppered that.
He has also ran the rule over Newcastle youngster Peter Ramage. The centre-back is likely to be on the fringe of the first team as new boss Sam Allardyce rebuilds his defence this year – but McCarthy is believed to have moved on to other targets.
