Hobbs has been charged with misconduct after allegedly directing abusive language towards a match official in the tunnel following Wolves’ 2-2 draw with the Magpies last Saturday.

The sporting director has until Monday (NOV 6) to respond to the charge.

It is the latest in a number of disciplinary run-ins for Wolves, who have been fined more than £200,000 in 2023 in relation to FA charges.

Nottingham Forest - January 2023

Wolves were fined £45,000 by the FA following a brawl with Nottingham Forest during their Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Wolves were deemed to bear ‘significantly higher responsibility’ in the clash following a penalty shootout which saw Forrest progress.

Former Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White was at the heart of the scuffle following celebrations towards his former club. Julen Lopetegui was deemed ‘unprofessional’ by the FA commission as his actions attempting to approach Gibbs-White were labelled a ‘flashpoint’.

Matheus Cunha was also blamed for ‘using aggression’ as tempers boiled.

Leeds United - 18th March 2023

Wolves were charged following an incident in the 98th-minute during their Premier League defeat to Leeds United at Molineux last season.

Lopetegui’s side shipped four goals as the club were alleged to have ‘failed to ensure its players and/or technical occupants do not behave in a way which is improper towards an assistant referee and the fourth official’.

Players disputed the decision to allow Leeds’ fourth goal in second-half stoppage time as midfielder Matheus Nunes was sent off for allegedly barging into the fourth official following the protest.

Nunes’s three-game ban was later overturned but Wolves were handed a £57,500 fine for failing to control their players and staff in early April this year.

Homophobic chanting - May 2023

Wolves were charged by the FA in May with failing to control fans during their 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Premier League at Molineux, becoming the first club to be sanctioned over supporters engaging in homophobic chanting.

Supporters were found to be singing homophobic chants as a tannoy announcement requesting that they stop was booed. Three arrests were made after the game in April relating to alleged offensive chants in the second half.

Wolves were subsequently fined £100,000 by the FA in July in relation to the ‘Chelsea rent boy’ chant which is defined as a homophobic slur.

Pablo Sanz - May 2023

Wolves' then assistant head coach Pablo Sanz was handed a one match touchline ban and fined £6,000 for misconduct following Wolves’ 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at the County Ground.

Sanz was charged by the FA following a touchline incident with Forest’s Alan Tate who received the same punishment.

The pair were sent off during the fiery Premier League encounter in the 52nd-minute and subsequently charged with ‘improper and/or violent conduct’.

Daniel Podence - April 2023

Wolves' top-scorer last season Daniel Podence was alleged to have spat at former Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson, and was charged by the FA.

However, an independent regulatory commission concluded that it was ‘not proven’ that the 28-year-old Portuguese winger had spat out at Johnson and was cleared of a spitting charge.

Podence denied spitting at Johnson and told the commission that he pretended to twice spit at the Forest winger, accepting he was trying to provoke his opponent.

Lopetegui ban - May 2023

Lopetegui was forced to watch his side’s Premier League clash with Arsenal from the stands following a ban from the technical area.

The manager was booked towards the end of Wolves’ game with Everton at Molineux - picking up his fourth yellow card since joining the club and a one match ban.
