Leeds want to bring their former attacker back to Elland Road, but it's understood they have not been able to agree a fee.

Championship rivals Barnsley are also keen on the 24-year-old but met the same resistance, with Wolves keen to get maximum value out of a player who has given good service and with his best years ahead of him.

Keogh is one of four or five players Wolves are prepared to sell to trim their squad.

Now Doncaster want to re-unite the Republic of Ireland international with his striker partner from Scunthorpe, Billy Sharp, a one-time Wolves target.

Their Wolverhampton-born manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "To put Andy and Billy together again is something to consider.

"You talk to a lot of clubs about players without making a concrete offer and we've done that with Andy.

"It will all depend on what Andy's situation is with Wolves.

"He knows a lot of our players and he certainly interests us."

Sharp has spoken to Keogh about the possibility of the pair being reunited at the Keepmoat Stadium.

He said: "Keogh's one of my good mates. He's mentioned it to me, he wants to play football like me and Doncaster are interested in him.

"I think if their manager Mick McCarthy would let him go out on loan then he'll come here."

Keogh is one of several players Wolves need to trim from their squad, two of which are expected to be forwards to help offset the club-record arrival of Steven Fletcher.

Premier League clubs must name a 25-strong squad by the closure of the transfer window and the club currently have 30 senior professionals, although the two under-21s Sam Vokes and Geoffrey Mujangi-Bia will not count in the 25.

Stefan Maierhofer is also wanted on a permanent basis by an unnamed European club, but they have also found Wolves unwilling to allow players to leave on the cheap.
