Who stood out in Wolves' pre-season match against Estoril?

Wolves had their first pre-season match on Saturday evening.

Our first glimpse of Cesar Peixoto’s Wolves came on Saturday evening as they played out a 0-0 draw with Estoril in Portugal.

It marked the end of the club’s week-long trip to the Algarve and they now turn their attention to four pre-season friendlies in front of fans before the campaign begins.

Peixoto played a stronger side for the first 60 minutes and they were unfortunate not to score after creating several chances.

But who stood out in the goalless draw?

Marshall Munetsi

The midfielder has returned to the club after spending the second half of last season on loan at Paris FC and seems eager to impress Peixoto.

He was chosen ahead of Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore to start the game - which likely tells its own story - and he took his chance on this occasion.

Munetsi was absolutely everywhere and was a constant thorn in Estoril’s side with high energy and aggressive pressing.

He won the ball back very well and helped spring attacks by looking forward with his passes, while he also offered an offensive threat himself and made forward runs as a proper number eight.

He splits opinion between fans and clearly struggles at times with his technical skills, but he could have something to offer this squad in the Championship.

Fer Lopez

Another player returning from loan in the second half of last season, Lopez is seemingly in Peixoto’s plans.

The Spaniard makes the list for mostly good, but some bad, reasons.

Playing as the number 10, he took up several dangerous positions, displayed numerous moments of nice dribbling and close ball control, while he was involved in set pieces too.

He has the technical ability to hurt teams and could be exciting, but he also needs to work on his decision making and when to release the ball.

On a few occasions he held onto the ball too long and ran into trouble, with Peixoto occasionally shouting from the sidelines for him to pass.

Kieran Trippier

One of the three new signings makes the list and Trippier was exactly what we expected.

He was a calm head, experienced, composed and helped those around him.

The right-back mentored Rodrigo Gomes through the game, who played ahead of him on the right wing, and was able to mop up if either Nasser Djiga or Toti Gomes were caught short.

As expected, he was also heavily involved in set pieces and a routine from a free-kick, involving Lopez and Mateus Mane, resulted in an excellent Trippier delivery that should have been headed home.

Mateus Mane

Playing off the left side, teenage wonderkid Mane was a consistent threat.

To some extent, he was still bubbling under considering how early in pre-season it is, yet he was still one of Wolves’ most dangerous players.

He has an incredible ability to ride challenges and somehow come out with the ball, while his dribbling and chance creation was impressive.

The 18-year-old has put on some muscle since last season and could be in for a big year if all goes right for him.
