The Portuguese under 21 international is set to head to Wolves for a medical and to sign a five-year contract, with the option of a further year on top of that.

It comes after Wolves faced a battle with other clubs for his signature, namely Atletico Madrid, but they have now won the race an got their man.

So, who is Rodrigo Gomes and what can Wolves fans expect from him?

The wide man was a product of Braga's youth system, going on to make his senior bow in 2020 before netting himself a new contract the following year.

After a season in the club's reserves he again flirted around the first team picture before heading out on a season long loan to Primeira Liga side Estoril last season.

And it was with Estoril that he made his most significant impact in senior football - and leading to interest from a number of clubs.

The side had a modest finish, and ended in the bottom half of the league table but it was Gomes who was one of Estoril's key men.

For some of the campaign he played as a wing back, mainly on the right side.

But despite playing in that position for some of the season he managed to bag nine goals in 36 matches - and came up with eight assists, a top return for a wing back.

He has also featured as a left wing back but his favoured position is on the right wing, and that is where he has seemed to make a significant impact throughout his loan spell.

Pundits in Portugal have singled out Gomes' dribbling ability - and how he is keen at every opportunity to drive at defenders and get full backs turned.

As well as that, he has been praised in the Portuguese press for marrying his attacking talent up with being able to drop deep for the ball and link play from the wide areas.

So, it seems as though Wolves have made the move because of the different areas Gomes brings to his game.

Other journalists have also pointed out his versatility as one of the reasons Wolves may have made the move for him.

The fact he can play as a wing back, as well as a winger is another positive attribute for the 20-year-old.

That versatility is something Wolves have been able to use to their advantage with others in recent years, such as Pedro Neto.

He is one player Wolves have been able to use in a number of areas of the pitch.

Players who can play in multiple positions not only help Gary O'Neil in terms of selections, but can also help during a transfer window where Wolves can't go and spend big to bulk out their squad.
