Young star Mateus Mane revealed the head coach’s first message to the squad after taking over from Rob Edwards this summer.

Mane told the Wolves Unpacked podcast: “On the first day he came in, he had up when we walk in, saying: ‘We will be champions this season’.

“And I feel like that's the mentality he's trying to get across everyone. So every day when you come in, just get that into your mind that we'll be champions and that's what we're fighting for and that's what we want to give our fans and family as well.”

And Mane backed that statement with his own rallying cry ahead of the new Championship season kicking off against Blackburn Rovers next month.

“I'm excited for a new challenge,” he said. “I love new challenges and feel like next season is going to be really big season for us Wolves players and Wolves fans.

“I feel like we're just going to go out there every game, show we shouldn't be here, but like we should want to be at the top and the best league in the world - and that's the Prem. I feel like next season we will achieve that.

“We'll smash every game or if things don't go right, we'll come back the next game and show that we're the best team in the in the league.

“And I feel like next season is going to be really good. I can't wait for it. It’s a tough league, but we got to keep fighting.”

Mane burst on to the scene with a series of outstanding displays under Edwards last season, but has had to get acquainted with a new manager following this summer’s shock change in the dugout.

“He's a very demanding coach,” added Mane of Peixoto. “He wants his stuff to be done right correct and not take any shortcuts.

“He likes players that get at it one v one, but if you lose the ball, he'll shout at you and to react.

“As long as you lose it and react and win it back or fight for the team, he'll be fine with it, but if you don't do that, then he will go mad.

“But he's a very good manager. He loves his tactics. He’s really good at tactics and everyone's looking forward for the season to be working with him. So I feel like it will be a very good season with him as well.”
