Wayne Hennessey joins Yeovil Town on loan

Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey was today handed a Championship platform to relaunch his career – at new-boys Yeovil on loan.

The 26-year-old shotstopper will join the newly-promoted club on Thursday for a month after linking up with the Wales squad for tomorrow's friendly against Ireland at Cardiff City Stadium.

Wales regular Hennessey, who has 38 caps, is fully fit again after recovering from a twice-ruptured cruciate ligament sustained in April 2012 and will replace the injured Marek Stech at Huish Park.

And he will come up against some familiar names on his debut on Saturday at Burnley, who are likely to field his former Wolves colleagues Jason Shackell, David Jones and Sam Vokes, also a fellow Wales international.

Jackett said: "After 18 months out, I'm pleased Wayne has been given the opportunity to go and play some first-team football.

"He's done all of the training sessions and has played in some of the pre-season fixtures but needs a regular run of games.

"It will be a good chance for Wayne to build up his match fitness, and is also in the best interests of the club to see him enjoy some regular first-team action."

Hennessey has been loaned out so he can get regular football again after head coach Kenny Jackett made Carl Ikeme his first-choice goalkeeper.

He will be looking to secure his first taste of regular football since he first ruptured his cruciate knee ligament at Sunderland in April 2012.
