Ward is pushing to make return

Stephen Ward is set to return to the Wolves starting line-up for the first time in three-and-a-half months for tomorrow's clash against Bolton.

The Irish left-back made his comeback from cartilage surgery in Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Birmingham as a half-time substitute and was Wolves' best player, despite not playing first team football since August 22.

Boss Mick McCarthy is delighted to have the 24-year-old back and confirmed the Dubliner is well in contention.

"He's fine and he's ready to play," said the Wolves chief. "It's great to have Wardy back – he was instrumental in helping us get back into that game.

"He gave us a bit of balance and thrust from that position. He almost changed the game for us with his positive influence, he was terrific.

"He's a great guy, Wardy, every team needs a personality like him. He's one of the nicest blokes I've come across in football but he's one of the toughest as well.

"He doesn't go around kicking people but he's just a physically hard player, a real competitor.

Ward's appearance for Wolves against Blues was his 100th since his bargain £100,000 move from Bohemians.

Meanwhile, Ronald Zubar (thigh) and Chris Iwelumo (foot) remain out for tomorrow, but both have returned to light training.
