In fact the peaceful crossing across the Irish Sea was only memorable for photographer Gavin Dickson's sudden craving for more food.

After scoffing a BLT along with two egg and bacon sandwiches en route through north Wales, Gav thought he had satisfied his appetite for a while during the three-hour ferry crossing from Holyhead.

He had too until his belly got the better of him in a venture up to the restaurant area.

Despite saying he wasn't hungry, our famished snapper sheepishly re-appeared with a plate crammed with fish and chips, which he polished off – almost!

Once in Dublin, we had to negotiate our way through the rush-hour traffic to our hotel on the outskirts of the city with only our intuition and very sparse signs to guide us.

Our map-reading skills were going awry as we snaked our way out of the Irish capital struggling to spy the necessary motorway we needed.

Especially when we pulled up at a set of traffic lights before a huge fork in the road and an unfamiliar Irish voice called out: "You don't want to be turning left – you'll get your wheels nicked and your car will be left on bricks going down there!"

With our English number plates and me reading the map in the passenger seat, we must have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Yet our local turned out to be a Good Samaritan as he revealed he was only joking and we were in fact going the right way after all – and so it turned out.

Wolves fans travelling here might care to know the temperatures are tipped to be mixed, with overcast skies mixed with rain and the odd spot of sunshine.

We experienced something similar on the way to Dublin - cloudy skies to Holyhead, a sudden torrential downpour on arrival - which we missed while having a coffee waiting for the ferry - then greeted by late afternoon sun as we sailed into the city.
