The fans watch Wolves shine at Bohemians

Wolves fans felt the heat but the team shone bright at Bohemians, writes Express & Star reporter and die-hard fan Jon Pritchard.

After watching the three goalkeepers being put through their paces in the searing Malahide heat yesterday afternoon, I know write this with one arm significantly more pink than the other.

Following the training session and grabbing a few pictures and signatures from the players, the fans decided to head out to Temple Bar, the famous area in Dublin renowned for drinking.

We found a decent enough place to eat and chatted about the tour so far. We all agreed that we were impressed with what we saw in our young goalkeeper Jonathan Flatt.

During the brief training session, Flatt looked keen to learn and is a raw talent.

No doubt he will be looking to emulate his fellow shot stoppers Carl Ikeme and Aaron McCarey in making the grade in the first team.

Goalkeeping coach Pat Mountain didn't seem to be putting them through their paces too much, but it was interesting to see how he kept the three players busy.

The one thing that stuck out from all three is that they clearly can't stand letting the balls fly past them. For each one that slipped through their grasp, it was met with cries of anguish and the odd expletive.

It was pleasing to see them be so competitive. At one point during a drill, Flatt and McCarey had each let one ball fly past them. When it came to current number one Ikeme's turn, he saved them all.

As he walked off there was a grin on his face. I swear it was down to him getting one over on his rivals.

Another hot topic during the meal and following drinks was how the players didn't seem too enthused about chatting to the fans.

Personally, I don't like to bother them too much but I think it's not too much to acknowledge the fans who have made their way over there, even if it is just a nod of the head, wave or quick hello.

Kenny Jackett and his No 2 Joe Gallen did all three of these things and the assembled fans appreciated it.

After some much needed R&R for the players and the fans – for massively differing reasons – it was time for the second match of the tour against Bohemians on Wednesday night.

Flatt got his chance to impress, but didn't have to do very much on what should have been an easy night for Wolves.

The atmosphere wasn't quite as good as on Monday, but on a bigger ground, with more Bohs fans, that is to be expected.

From a fans point of view Declan Weeks, who really caught the eye on Monday, didn't really get into the game, while van La Parra again failed to impress.

Leon Clarke chipped in with two goals and Wolves eventually ran out as 3-1 winners, but in truth, Bohemians passed the ball around well and, had they finished their chances, the scoreline could have been a lot different.

Old gold shirts flooded the Bohs Bar after the game, and a great night was had by all talking about memories watching Wolves and once again sinking a few beers.

Something that has really stood out during the tour is the great people you meet. It's like a four-day away trip.

From Irish men who just choose Wolves as their team, to young women who have had the Wolves inflicted on them by their fathers, there is every type of Wolves fan in the bar.

Later on in the evening, walking home from a questionable food establishment, one of the fans tells me just how much he has enjoyed the trip.

"It's not just the football, it's the people you meet," he says. I couldn't agree more.
