Souness is fronting a bid to buy Wolves alongside a mystery partner and has promised to pour cash into the coffers in an effort to bring Premiership football back to Molineux.

Wolves have rejected Souness' bid, but the ex-Liverpool man insists his offer remains on the table.

Former Wolves boss Taylor - a friend of current owner Sir Jack Hayward - reckons Souness' enthusiasm and drive would make him a hit at Molineux. Taylor, manager between 1994 and 1995, said: "The problem with football these days is the amount of people involved in the game because of the money.

"There are people at the highest levels who are in the sport purely for the money and not the football. That would not be the case with Graeme, who was a fine player and has managed at the top."

The former England manager was offered a position as director last year. Taylor turned down that chance, but thinks Souness could breathe new life into the boardroom.

"Sir Jack wants to sell and it would be fantastic if someone like Graeme could help Wolves back into the Premiership. Anyone who goes into football should have enthusiasm for the game, which Graeme has," he said.

A growing band of former Wolves favourites believe that a Souness-led buy-out would help lead the club into the Premiership.

Kenny Hibbitt, Don Goodman have lent support and Souness' former signing Mark Walters is another backer.

Now former boss Colin Lee is backing the proposal. The Molineux manager between 1998 and 2000 thinks the ex-Liverpool, Blackburn and Newcastle chief is the man to revive Wolves' ailing fortunes.

"Sir Jack Hayward has been there forever and has done everything possible to revive the club. It appears he is finally prepared to give up the club, which he wasn't willing to do in the past," Lee said. "Getting Graeme in would be great."

Ex-midfielder Steve Froggatt also threw his weight behind the bid.

"Wolves are going nowhere - the fans are voting with their feet. The club needs to be sold," he said.
