Steve Bull: Wolves need to show more hunger in front of goal
The Wolves legend has his say on the latest events at Molineux.
To score goals you need hunger.
That’s what Wolves need more of if they are to start winning matches more comfortably and bring a bit of excitement to supporters.
Last week’s game against Watford was very one-sided. We ended up having 26 shots on goal but only put one of them away.
I found myself thinking, is there nobody hungry enough? Teams are there for the taking at the moment and we could kill them off early doors, rather than keeping the fans on their toes and reaching the point where they are chanting about the head coach.
Fingers crossed the goal Adam Armstrong scored will give him a bit of confidence going forward.
I have said before I think he is doing a bit too much of the dirty work in midfield. His work should be in the 18-yard box and for me he is wasting energy chasing players down, when he should just stay up there.
As a team, Wolves have to get more hungry in front of goal. They have to become more clinical.
I would have them on the training ground three hours a day, crossing, shooting, crossing shooting.
They have to shoot as though it is the last thing they have to do in the game. At the moment there seems a bit of an assumption we will get other chances. Players need to take responsibility and pretend it is the only one they will get.
Wolves’ failure to score more last weekend meant a nervy finish and it was a rare thing to hear a manager booed by fans, when his team is winning the game.
I am sure Cesar Peixoto is broad shouldered enough to take it. I just wonder if at the moment people are expecting a bit too much from this Wolves team?
We have come down from the Premier League and some people maybe still think we are a Premier League side.
But my view is we are a Championship side and we have to treat the team that way.
Going back up at the first attempt is going to be hard.
This group of players did not win many matches last season and it was always going to take time to change the mentality.
The fans have got to be a little more patient. If we were in the bottom half of the Championship, you could understand the frustration more.
But we are fourth in the table, not in full throttle yet. We’re still pretty well placed.
