The 20-year-old marked his Wolves debut with a battling display and showed flashes of the potential which persuaded Mick McCarthy to spend £600,000 luring him from Scunthorpe.

But Keogh is hoping to do better if he is chosen to play against Plymouth on Saturday.

"I thought I was alright - I worked hard, but we didn't really do much going forward. They had most of the possession and I just had to dig in," he said."Sometimes I was flicking balls on with headers and then having to run on to them myself. Three points on my debut was the main thing.

"I do have a lot more to offer. When Michael Kightly played alongside me for a bit in the second you could see a bit of play, so hopefully when we play at home - and we aren't in the situation of having men sent off - we can use that to our advantage."

Keogh believes he should have had a penalty when he was tripped by Norwich keeper David Marshall after chasing down a goal kick.

"It was 100 per cent a penalty - I have the gashes on my leg to prove it!" he said. "I couldn't believe it wasn't given. If I hadn't been fouled I could have run on to the ball and it would have been a simple chance to tap the ball into the net for a goal. It was a stonewall penalty.

"During the game the referee said to me it wasn't, but after the game he said, 'I'm not sure.' I think it was a bad decision."

Keogh was called into the Ireland squad for the first time yesterday.

"I couldn't believe the call-up. My dad rang me to tell me and I didn't believe him - but then my mum rang me a couple of minutes later and I believed it then.

"I used to wear an Ireland shirt in the park pretending to be Damien Duff or Roy Keane."
