Kenny Jackett stokes up promotion flames for Wolves

Kenny Jackett demands Wolves "see the job through" after again feeling the heat of competition for League One automatic promotion.

Leyton Orient's 2-0 home win over Stevenage saw them leapfrog Wolves back into the top two as Jackett's side head for Saturday's showdown with the league leaders Brentford.

Although Orient have now played two more games than Wolves, fourth-placed Preston's challenge is also not being under-estimated by the Molineux head coach.

It raises the stakes as the final third of the campaign gets underway and Jackett is eager for his men to shrug off the pressure and not squander the platform built so far.

"We want promotion and we have a chance now," says Jackett.

"In the first two thirds of the season – we've had 30 games and have 48 points left to play for – we have given ourselves a chance and a platform to go off.

"If we are looking at other big clubs then Sheffield United and Bristol City are looking to survive to fight another day and another season.

"We are in a good position and need to make sure we capitalise on that.

"To get to 64 points after 30 games is a good achievement and it would be a shame to throw that away.

"We need to make sure we see the job through and capitalise on a good chance with the opportunity we have given ourselves."

A five-game winning streak is the form Wolves will take to Brentford, a sequence which has also seen them become the League's tightest defence.

That is proving as important as the steadily-improving goal supply and Jackett attributes the defensive form to a combination of factors.

"We do work on defending and there is good competition for places in that area," he says.

"In our goalkeeping and defensive positions there has been very good competition for places all season.

"In front of that we have had some changes with the midfield with (David) Davis and (Lee) Evans starting the season and has then developed through Dave Edwards onto Jack Price with Kevin McDonald.

"I think we know our jobs and are structured and organised but good competition for the back positions has certainly helped.

"Everyone has to work as well throughout the team.

"There are high expectations at a club like this in League One and players have to reach certain standards not just in quality but in attitude and workrate as well.

"That is expected from Wolves and rightly so."
