Kenny Jackett calls for cool heads ahead of Brentford clash

Kenny Jackett is backing his players to keep "clear heads" amid the high-stakes tension of Saturday's Brentford clash.

The collision of first and third in League One at Griffin Park represents the biggest test yet to the new-look team Jackett has so swiftly assembled in his first season in charge.

"I'd like to think the players can settle down and play the type of football I want them to play and have clear heads in what is a very big game," said boss Jackett.

"Saturday will be a terrific game – and the players should look forward to it."

"It is a challenge to go and play Brentford who are on a 19-game unbeaten run and have won 16 of those games.

"That's a fantastic run and the transition of managers has been smooth and maybe even accelerated.

"It's a match between two teams at the top of the table and these are the games we are all in football for.

"It was a good game when we played at Molineux and it was a good standard game despite being a 0-0 draw.

"It was an entertaining game and an attacking game which could have gone either way – it was pretty even.

"They have got a very settled pattern built over the last two-and-a-half years. Their coaching and recruitment has been very consistent and you can see improvements in the club with training facilities and youth policy."

But he thinks it will be wrong for supporters of the division's leading thee clubs this season – Brentford, Orient and Wolves have been out in front since the Christmas period – to consider themselves in an exclusive dispute for the top two places.

With a third of the campaign still to run, Jackett sees dangers emerging from beneath the top three.

"I think Preston will finish with a high tally as well as the top three.

"It is hard to predict how much they will get and where they will be but they have only lost four games so far which is the same as ourselves.

"They have just drawn a few more games than us.

"I don't think Rotherham will be too far off either and think both they and Preston will finish with very good totals so we are looking at four and maybe five teams involved."
