Jack Robinson declares 4-4-2 is right for Wolves

On-loan left-back Jack Robinson today declared 4-4-2 is the right way forward for Wolves.

Manager Dean Saunders tinkered with his formation for Sunday's 2-1 defeat against Cardiff when he played a 3-5-1-1 formation only to abandon the plan at half-time and revert to 4-4-2 with the team 1-0 down.

Robinson played as a wing-back in the new-look system before reverting to a more orthodox full-back role for the second period in the changed line-up, which saw strikers Kevin Doyle and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake come on for Danny Batth and Tongo Doumbia.

And 19-year-old Liverpool defender Robinson believes the players looked more at home playing the regular formation.

"After we changed the formation back to 4-4-2 it worked much better for us going forward and we showed the crowd what we were made of," said Robinson.

"If we carry on playing like that, results will come."

Wolves have gone 12 games without a win to drop into the Championship's bottom three ahead of Friday's visit of in-form Watford, who have won seven games out of their last nine.

But Robinson is convinced results will soon turn in the belief that overall performances are good enough.

"We're playing well, but we just can't get the results at the moment," he said.

"Because of the lack of wins it looks like we're struggling, but we're working hard and trying to play football.

"One mistake cost us a goal in the first half against Cardiff, and that's the kind of thing we need to cut out if we want to climb the table.

"Then, in the second half, we were on top and we lost concentration for a split second and it cost us a goal.

"Carl Ikeme made a mistake but he'll learn from that, and if another cross like that comes in, I'm sure he'll make it his own.

"The games seem to be going against us at the moment."

Robinson is determined to repay Saunders' faith after the manager threw him straight into the team at Barnsley and then kept faith with him last weekend in place of the experienced Stephen Ward.

"For him to put me straight in shows he's got a lot of confidence in me," he said.

"If I keep working hard and showing him what I can do, hopefully I'll keep playing and help the team get the results we need."
