The 18-year-old made the switch to Molineux this summer in a £8.4million deal but has yet to make the squad for a Premier League game.

He did start against Burnley in the Carabao Cup, however, and impressed with an assist for the opening goal.

O’Neil can see the potential in the Brazilian but says he will still need time to adapt.

“His English has improved loads, so his understanding of what we need, taking instructions from the side and his communication with the team is much better now,” O’Neil said.

“He’s an incredible athlete for his age with his powerful he is. He moves so well.

“He has the potential to play at Premier League level for many years.

“He has some technical stuff that he needs to brush up on and we’re trying to keep helping him move along.

“There’s no rush with him from our point of view, we have Nelson and Doherty, but we hope that if we do it in the right way with him we’ll get him in a place where he’s ready to be the right-back of Wolverhampton Wanderers for a long time to come.”

Meanwhile, O’Neil says ‘talented’ Rayan Ait-Nouri can play left-back, left wing or even on the right for Wolves this season.

O’Neil said: “Rayan should be able to do both (positions on the left).

“He’s good enough to player lower at left-back and good enough to play higher up.

“I actually quite like him on the right, which we haven’t seen yet this season.

“After the first two games, against Saka and then last weekend when he played a part in the goals.

“He’s a talented boy and we need him on the pitch if we can, we just tried to get him in an area that freed him up a little bit.”
