Dave Edwards: Wolves signing sets the tone for Cesar Peixoto's team
Read the latest Wolves column from Dave Edwards.
Cesar Peixoto has made his first signing as Wolves manager with the addition of Rafiki Said.
The first signing is always going to be important because it sets the tone of what we're going to expect from the type of players that the manager likes and also the type of characters and the direction that this Wolves team is going to move in.
We’ve already had the fantastic early signings of Raul Jimenez and Kieran Trippier which I'm sure Peixoto will be delighted with, but this is his very first one since becoming head coach and it's a winger coming in from the Belgian league.
Said, at 26-years-old, is at a really good age and coming into his prime off the back of a successful season where he scored eight goals, and got five assists in his 38 appearances.
But it's more about the type of player that he is. When you look at what Peixoto has done in the last few seasons, he spoke about playing a 4-2-3-1, or almost a 4-2-4 at times, but what is key for his team is the pace out wide and Said definitely fits into this.
He's very fast, he's excellent in one against one situations and that'll be important for Peixoto because he can carry the ball at speed and even out of possession, he's very aggressive in the way he presses.
He’s a good dribbler as well, creative, and you can see this by his goal and assist record as well.
It’s a reasonable transfer fee, it does look like a low risk signing and with some real potential upside and I think if you look at how the squad is now building with Trippier and Jimenez as well, it looks like these wide areas and crosses into the box are going to be really important.

It's an excellent start to the recruitment process and Said will be delighted to get in before they go away for their training camp in Portugal.
This is where a lot of the work will be done and it's where the players will learn a lot more about the manager tactically, they'll get a lot of detail across, spend a lot of time in each other's company, building relationships with your team-mates.
Said will be delighted to get in the door before they go away and take advantage of this week away in Portugal.
I’ve had success in the Championship and from my experience it helps to get off to a fast start.
We did that when we got promoted in 2008/09, I think Nuno's team did that as well when they got promoted, getting off to a hot start is really important and to do that you need a reasonably settled squad, you need to have got through an awful lot of good work in the off-season leading into that first game.
It’s vitally important to have as many players in the building for pre-season as possible because a lot will change under Peixoto compared to what the players are used to before, so that will take time and the more players they can have through the door to take advantage of that time will be important.

I’m sure Said will get stuck straight into the physical work, the double sessions and gruelling training that you have to do to work on your fitness, working under fatigue and trying to understand tactical information in those moments.
But most of all it’s about getting to know his team-mates better as well.
It’s been an encouraging start to Peixoto's recruitment drive and it's an early indication of how he's going to play with lots of pace out wide which will make Wolves a very exciting proposition next season.
