Dave Edwards: Sour taste at the end of a good week in Spanish sun for Wolves

The incident involving Hwang Hee-Chan in the game against Como leaves a sour taste in the mouth after a really good week in Marbella.

It has been tough work for the players in the sun, they trained hard all week, and the game was another training exercise more than anything else.

That is invaluable with new players and youngsters involved in the squad as they try to build relationships. That would have built over the course of the trip and then going into the game it looked as if it was a really good performance from what you hear.

Sadly, it was overshadowed by something you do not expect to see in 2024. It is a shame, and the consequence of that saw Daniel Podence getting in a bit of trouble and getting sent off.

It is not what you want to see.

It shows the character Hwang has that when he was asked if he wanted to take the team off, he put the team before himself saying that he did not want that to come in the way of it.

As frustrated and as upset as he must have been, he put the team first to finish the game. He deserves a lot of credit for that.

I am sure Gary O’Neil and the rest of the players would have gotten around him to pick him up after the game – that must be a terrible thing to go through.

We should have seen the back of this sort of thing by now, but for whatever reason, it rears its ugly head every now and again. He does have a really good support network around him at the moment – they are such a close group.

He will be able to come through it, but it is a shame it has marred what has been a really useful week for O’Neil.

They have a really strong squad at the moment even with the internationals away they managed to put out two strong XIs.

Football itself is moving so so fast and Wolves have now appointed a set-piece coach – I think that is a good move.

From a tactical point of view if you do not keep up with the pace the game is moving at then you will be left behind.

It is one of those areas now when you look around football clubs, and if you can gain an extra one per cent you have to take advantage of it.

It is good to see Wolves are not only employing someone who can make the most of these set-piece opportunities but they have gone after someone with such a good reputation.

Jack Wilson, who has worked at Man City and Brentford, knows football really well.

It was fascinating to hear O’Neil go into detail about Wilson and how much detail he goes into with his work.

I am excited to see what kind of things they come up with and how they can hurt the opposition with free-kicks and corner routines.

Also, it should help them set up defensively to make sure they do not concede many either and it is an area that all of the top clubs are looking at now.

Games can be so close that it can come down to that moment of magic or movement or deception that you can create from a set piece.

If Wolves can turn it into some additional points this season that will be great as you can how important it is a make small gains.
