Exclusive:Cesar Peixoto outlines his Wolves transfer plans
Cesar Peixoto was speaking to Liam Keen in an exclusive interview.
Cesar Peixoto has urged Wolves to sign a ‘high quality’ midfield replacement following the departure of Joao Gomes.
The Brazilian has left for Villa in a deal worth up to £38million and Wolves are planning to make an addition in the middle of the park, while Peixoto is assessing options that have returned from loan such as Marshall Munetsi, Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore.
Wolves have so far made three signings and the head coach has outlined what other areas he wants to address.
He said: “I think we need another winger, someone to replace Joao, it's important, and one or two things to improve.
“You have to watch all the players. Let the players start to play in these games, to see and watch and feel what after that we need or not.
“I'm happy with these players, but we have to fight, we have to compete against other teams to feel and watch what we have to do.
“We have a lot of players who came from the World Cup. We have to manage the situation.”
Gomes’ departure is not a surprise, with the midfielder close to joining Atletico Madrid before they pulled out, while Wolves were always planning to sell him.
Peixoto admits he expected Gomes to leave, but is keen for a top notch replacement and a well-balanced team.
“I knew from the first moment that Joao Gomes could potentially be sold and it’s not a problem for me,” Peixoto said.
“But we have to replace him with high quality.
“I think it's important for the team, it's important for me also.
“We manage the situation and try to find the right profile to put in our team, not bring someone just to bring them. That’s important for me.
“Not only in terms of physicality and tactically, but in terms of mentality.
“I want humble players, a humble team that works hard with a lot of commitment. With a spirit, group spirit.
“For me it's a key point. For me the big star of the team is the group. The spirit of the group.
“Not an individual player, for me it’s the team, the club, that’s what I want.”
