Bully column - Paul Lambert has right idea on transfers

The impact Ben Marshall and Andreas Weimann have made since January bodes well for the summer.

The only two players Paul Lambert has brought in have both been successes so far.

Marshall has hit the ground the running, and he put in a great ball for Nouha Dicko's goal against Leeds.

Weimann's come in and looks especially handy up front, but his versatility and pace have proved invaluable.

It's given me an immense amount of confidence in Lambert's ability to pick out the right player for this league and I fully trust him to make the right decisions in what will be a hugely important window.

Like Steve Bruce at Villa, he knows the sort of player he needs, and he knows it's not necessarily all about ability.

You need the right character to survive and thrive in the Championship.

But if he's going to bring in any players, he needs to get rid of quite a few first.

It's a big few games for several players coming back from injury, like Jordan Graham, Michael Zyro and Joe Mason.

I'd like to see all three of them get minutes off the bench in the remaining matches, it's the perfect time of the season to drip-feed them time on the pitch.

And all three deserve a chance to try and force themselves into Lambert's plans for next season.

Another player who needs to improve the manager is Andy Lonergan. Carl Ikeme is a massive presence in goal, but Lonergan is a bit quieter.

The 33-year-old has plenty of experience, but it's not always that obvious, and a couple of recent mistakes may get Lambert thinking about the need for a new bacgoalkeeper.

Two players who are fighting for their Wolves futures are Mike Williamson and Richard Stearman.

After Monday's clean sheet, I'd like to see both of them stay.

You need experience in the side, particularly in the back four, where it is absolutely vital.

Kourtney Hause is a bright prospect, but he's also young. Williamson and Stearman have hundreds of games under their belts, which is crucial in a long season.

One player who seems to just keep on going on is Dave Edwards. Reaching 300 Wolves game is absolutely superb, and he deserves everything he gets in my opinion.

He's a great ambassador for the club and he gives every game 100 per cent. This season he's scored some important goals by arriving in the box late, which is a great attribute to have.
