Blog: Will Wolves be bold again on transfers?

With only one signing so far in January, blogger Richard Hobbs discusses what business Wolves might do in the next few days.

Last January, Kenny Jackett acted boldly in the mid season transfer window, replacing his entire frontline.

Kevin Doyle, Bjorn Sigurdarson and Leigh Griffiths left, while Nouha Dicko and Leon Clarke rejoined the club.

Wolves have been crying out for more options going forward with Dicko seemingly the only striker good enough in the Championship.

New signing Benik Afobe will offer Dicko some much needed competition, something Clarke has failed to do in the past six months.

Signing Afobe was a good start to strengthen the forward line, but it still feels like Wolves are still a striker short to really push into the play-offs.

With our goal difference being so inferior to the teams above us, over the next few weeks Wolves have got to put more teams to the sword to claw back the deficit.

Without Sako in recent matches, Wolves have lacked any genuine width on the left hand side.

Whether he stays or goes, Wanderers do need a replacement left winger in his absence.

Manchester United youngster Jesse Lingard has been linked to the club. A player who can play in a variety of attacking roles and has shown he has the ability at this level would be a very astute signing.

In terms of who may leave, the obvious contender is Sako.

With six months left on his contract, Moxey might be tempted to cash in on him now rather than lose him for nothing in the summer if he does not commit his future to the club.

Following his return from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, it will be interesting where Kevin Doyle's future lies.

He, unlike many high earners at the club, was in Jackett's first team plans last season and given our lack of attacking option should at least be able to compete for a place on the bench.

However, if a club comes in for Doyle and are willing to pay his wages, I think the club won't think twice about letting him leave.

Club captain Sam Ricketts has also been made available for loan. The Championship seems to be one step too far for him, but he would be very good for any League 1 team aiming for promotion.

Before the hectic transfer deadline day, Wolves play Bolton at the Macron Stadium.

Our rival Wanderers have been inconsistent of late, but they do have the potential to cause Wolves trouble.

Lee Chung-Yong is always dangerous on the wing while Jay Spearing is solid in front of the defence.

Wolves are currently the in form team the league with two draws and four wins in the last six games. It might be a tough match, but I think Wolves have more than enough to get a fourth away win in a row.
