The Hearts skipper has been manager Mick McCarthy's long-term January transfer window target.
It is understood the deal for the central defender will cost around £2 million.
Hearts confirmed that Berra will not be involved in today's Clydesdale Bank Premier League fixture against Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park.
A club spokesperson said, "Hearts has given Christophe permission to talk to Wolves and he does so with our blessing."
