Bennett aiming for a bigger stage

Wolves winger Elliott Bennett wants to trade Gigg Lane for White Hart Lane as he set his sights on gatecrashing the Premier League adventure.

The 20-year-old flier has just spent the last season and a half on loan Bury, earning rave reviews in their unexpected charge to the League Two play-offs.

Bennett played all of Bury's 46 League games this season as well as six cup clashes, including both legs of their play-off semi-final defeat to Shrewsbury, plus 19 League Two appearances last season.

But the Telford-born wide man wants a taste of the big time after returning to Molineux.

He said: "I go back to Wolves and they are a Premier League club now. I want to be involved with Wolves, even just travelling with them or even just making a cup of tea for them – I'll do it.

"I want more and I want to start a Premier League game for Wolves. If I can have any involvement in that squad, then it will be massive for me.

"That's what I want to do. Right from being young I've wanted to play at the highest level I possibly can.

"I've just had my best season in football and I think I can bring something to the party at Wolves, but it's about what Mick McCarthy thinks now.

"If he asked me what I wanted to do, the answer would be I want to play for Wolves in the Premier League, but if that's not possible then a loan move – we'll see.

"My main aim is to really give it a good try, get in and around the squad for the Premier League."

Bennett believes the man who launched his League career – Bury boss Alan Knill – has significantly improved his game.

The wide man said: "When he first came in he told everyone what he wanted and what he expected.

"For me personally, he's worked on my game, he's given me confidence.

"He's instilled the confidence into me and he's improved my game massively.

"I'm not the finished article, but I've come on so much. The gaffer had confidence in me and I played every game this season."

Bennett believes Knill is also the catalyst behind Bury's revival.

Despite being among the favourites to be relegated at the start of the season, Bury finished fourth and only lost out to Shrewsbury on penalties in the play-off semi-finals.

He believes Knill, who is a friend of McCarthy, is the key behind the success.

He said: "He's the reason why this club is moving forward, plain and simple."

Such has been Knill's impact, that Bennett would welcome another chance at Gigg Lane if he became a loan ranger again.

He said:" "If I was ever to come back to League Two on loan, there's only one club I would want to go to."
