Adam Armstrong vows to help fire Wolves back to Premier League

Armstrong scored during Wolves’ final game of the season at Burnley.

Adam Armstrong declared Wolves “belong in the Premier League” and vowed to give his all to secure the club an immediate return.

The striker netted his second goal for the Old Gold since joining during the January transfer window, firing home from the penalty spot early in the first half at Burnley.

Wolves brought the curtain down on a dismal season which saw them go winless away from home in the league - only the seventh team in history to do so, and the first since 2009/10.

As Wolves now look ahead to playing in the Championship next season, Armstrong promised to give everything to help the club secure a swift return to the top flight.

He said: “We have to have some time off now and be raring to go when we get back, because we know that this club belongs in the Premier League.

“I will be doing everything I can to get us back there.

“With Andre signing, hopefully we will see a few changes. We will take pre-season head on and go again.”

The 29-year-old is set to be one of Wolves’ key players in the second tier next season, having been signed in January with the next campaign in mind.

Wolves were quick out of the blocks at Turf Moor, applying pressure and creating chances. They could have held more than a one-goal advantage at the break, but then came under pressure themselves early in the second half and were perhaps fortunate not to fall behind.

“We started the second half too slow,” added Armstrong. “In the first half we had a few chances which we should have taken to be maybe two or three up.

“The game in the second half became a basketball game, it was back and forwards. Considering where booth teams are in the league it was always going to be like that.

“If we started better in the second half we might have come out with the win, but we have to take the positives and the point and go forward.”
