Wolves full-back Matt Doherty has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad after three players were ruled out of the upcoming Nations League fixtures through injury.

The Football Association of Ireland confirmed Doherty will join the team alongside Southampton’s Ryan Manning and Everton’s Jake O’Brien ahead of games this week against Finland and England.

Doherty’s call-up comes after the 32-year-old expressed his displeasure having been left out by boss Heimir Hallgrimsson in October after centre-back Andrew Omobamidele played ahead of him against Greece.

Shane Duffy and Adam Idah have withdrawn from the squad along with Seamus Coleman, who Everton boss Sean Dyche confirmed had a hamstring problem.
