Wolves boss plans to improve star striker

Gary O’Neil is pleased with Jorgen Strand Larsen’s impact on the Premier League but insists the striker still has room to improve.

The summer signing has managed two goals this season, including an excellent strike in the 5-3 loss to Brentford at the weekend.

Although the head coach is happy with Wolves’ new dynamic as Larsen leads the line, he has tasked the Norwegian with improving further.

“There is room, still, for improvement for him,” O’Neil said.

“He’s shown signs of what he can be and had some really good games.

“It’s there for everybody to see what he can do, it’s just now about trying to get him used to doing it in the Premier League.

“He’s faced some of the toughest defences in the league so far, so he’s had a rough introduction to life in the Premier League, but his work for the team has been excellent. Exceptional.

“His out-of-possession stuff has been really good.

“Now we need to help him find a way to be a little bit more of a threat.

“Channy was excellent as a number nine for us last season and he could be helpful to us because Jorgen does cover an awful lot of ground and work very hard for a big guy.

“Towards the end of a game, sometimes we’re able to freshen up or go with two number nines.

“He’s (Larsen) working exceptionally hard and giving absolutely everything, which will stand him in good stead to show everyone his quality. I’m pleased with what he’s done so far and pushing him to do more.

“The team’s understanding of the new players and how they fit in is improving all the time.”
