Dave Edwards: Wolves' Yerson Mosquera is primed and ready to replace Max Kilman

That £40million goes into the coffers but I do feel the money has already been spent, and that’s the best way to do it. It’s better to do your transfer business without clubs knowing you’ve got £40m in the bank to spend.

Wolves have been really astute in the signings of Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen, all in positions that needed to be strengthened. They are exciting players.

I don’t feel Max is someone Wolves necessarily need to replace, which is positive. They are strong at centre-back, I do think it needs a bit of depth there. But Mosquera coming back from his Villarreal loan is someone the club have thought would be in the first team at Wolves.

He just needed to be developed with game time. He is now very much sought-after in La Liga after a very impressive six months out there and he really fits into that three-at-the-back system.

I know there are rumours around that Gary O’Neil might want to switch to a back four, but if it is a three then he has a ready-made line-up with Craig Dawson in the middle, Mosquera on the right and Toti Gomes on the left. That’s a really aggressive defence in the way they can press because of the legs when the ball goes over the top.

Hopefully Wolves keep hold of Semedo and there is Ait-Nouri and Bueno over the other side. There is a lot of athleticism in the backline marshalled by the more experienced Dawson.

It’s not an area I worry about. I do think he should get another player in that area but it doesn’t need to be a starter or a big name, more someone to step in when needed.

As it stands now, the squad is well balanced. Now it just needs a bit more depth overall. But if this squad starts the season I’d be more than happy. I still think there could be another sale or two, maybe a big name, but if we can keep hold of Neto, Joao Gomes, Ait-Nouri and Lemina then it’s a really strong Wolves squad with good balance and some depth. Wolves fans can be optimistic with early business ready for pre-season.

Kilman was the one player with value I thought wouldn’t be the end of the world to lose, as much as I love Max and think he’s great. It’s the one area there are players to come in.

I think Max’s sale is a good deal for Wolves. I do feel he’s worth £40m, I don’t think they’ve overpaid, but it’s a good deal all around.

It’s certainly a good deal for Maidenhead! Max can be really proud of being able to influence the club with that money from the sell-on fee.

Max can go and develop now. As much as the clubs are on the same level, I don’t know if it is location or whatever, but the defender may well now have a better chance of getting into the England squad. Whether that is right or wrong I don’t know – they should just be going on players’ ability.

I think all Wolves fans will thank Max for what he did. He came aged 21 just known for Futsal ability but he firstly got into the team under Nuno and developed quickly, I particularly think Conor Coady helped him develop, and more recently Dawson.

He has matured and got better season-on-season, he matured and became a leader.

Max is exactly what the club wants to do. Buy young, bring up their value and develop them and sell them. He’s the perfect example.
