Dave Edwards: I’d like to see Fabio Silva return and fight for his Wolves spot

It was really good for him to have a year away this season and play in two different leagues.

It’s a massive experience for such a young lad and he’s done well with 16 goals in all competitions at both Anderlecht and PSV.

Those leagues are obviously nowhere near as tough as the Premier League, but it will only help with his confidence and I’m really happy he’s gone out and shown the maturity to play football – rather than sitting around and waiting for a chance.

For his development, it was the best thing that could have happened. I do think he’d have played a lot of games for Wolves – especially when Julen Lopetegui came in – and I think he’d have scored goals in that team as well.

Now, they have a real conundrum with him.

I expect Raul Jimenez to move on, hopefully Sasa Kalajdzic will be fit and firing – and then after that you have Silva and Matheus Cunha, and it’s fair to say Cunha isn’t an out-and-out number nine.

There is an opportunity for Silva. Everyone expects the club to go out and buy a number nine and if they do pay a lot of money for someone, you’d think they’d be the starter, and will Silva be happy with that? I don’t think so.

A lot of the conversations will be about what he wants, and if Wolves can’t guarantee him game time, it might be better to cash in on him.

But if he’s happy to fight for his place and back himself, he will get opportunities under this manager. He’s a manager that does develop young players and Silva is still only 20 years old. He still has a huge future ahead of him and I would like to see him stay.

Looking at other forward options, I’ve been lucky enough to watch Coventry on a few occasions this year and reported Wolves target Viktor Gyokeres has been so impressive.

I think his skillset passes over to the Premier League, and in particular a club like Wolves. He’s something we’ve really missed this year. He brings similar dynamism to Raul Jimenez in his first two years. He’s an aggressive and powerful runner.

He operates really well in the left channel and with his power and pace he gets on the ball. He creates so many opportunities for himself and other players.

He’s scored a lot of goals this season but isn’t clinical, in most games he needs three or four chances, but he creates that himself. He would offer Wolves a different presence and would be good value for money.

Elsewhere on the pitch, something is not quite right with Jose Sa and I think the manager would make a change there this summer if allowed.

They need cover at full-back too. Unfortunately, Jonny’s performances haven’t been convincing and if anything happens to Nelson Semedo you need someone who can cover that position.

They probably need another midfielder with Ruben Neves expected to go, and Joao Moutinho already gone. The most interesting one is wingers – we have a lot of them, but none have been that convincing. Wolves lack a consistent creator from out wide and they could do with shuffling the pack there.
