Mendes' agency Gestifute represents several Molineux stars – though there is no suggestion of wrong-doing from anyone involved with Wolves.

According to Portuguese publication Sabado, Mendes' home and the offices of Gestifute have been searched as part of a widespread investigation into tax fraud and money laundering within Portuguese football.

Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon are also said to have been targeted – along with a host of other Primeira Liga clubs.

Mendes has been associated with Wolves ever since Fosun took over the club in 2016, helping to bring in several top stars as they turned from Championship also-rans into European contenders.
