Steve Bull: The perfect send-off for a semi-final

We could not have wished for a greater result and performance ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final than what we got against Manchester United.

Beating Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charges 2-1 yet again at Molineux proved the quarter-final triumph a few weeks ago was no fluke.

United had the first 20 minutes, got their goal, and I thought we were going to get battered at one point, to be fair.

They were all over us, but they missed some good chances, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard having close-range headers saved by Rui Patricio, and we kicked on from there.

We thought ‘hold on, we are giving them too much respect’.

After that, we really took the game to them.

United did not capitalise on that early spell, and then we made them look ordinary.

We deserve a vast amount of credit for that too.

It seems a lot of the pundits have said ‘United had an off day, they were not at the races’, but we have played them twice within a month and beaten them twice.

And that is not just down to luck. We drew 1-1 with them at Old Trafford as well, so it seems we have their number, just like a few sides have had ours this term. That’s football.

The ball is well and truly rolling for Watford at Wembley now.

I think some of us thought, going into Tuesday night, we might lose against United, so let’s dust ourselves down afterwards and give it our all against Hornets.

Now, it’s ‘we’ve beaten United, let’s take that into Watford’.

What was especially pleasing about the victory over the Red Devils was the never-say-die attitude on display.

A lot of teams might have folded given the start Solskjaer’s side had, opening the scoring with a well-taken goal from Scott McTominay, but Nuno’s team never throw in the towel.

Victories like these are not all that surprising any more as we know what the team can do – both the talent and tenacity they possess.

You can put anybody in front of us and we will give them a good game.

It is just about doing what Nuno does every week now, going into Wembley and thinking of it as the next game – you do not at all sense they are going to be overawed by the occasion.

Let’s put United on the mantelpiece and turn our attention to the Hornets as we bid to go a step closer to grabbing some silverware.
