The Danish youngster celebrated turning 18 last week by signing a deal which will keep him at Molineux until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Though yet to make a senior start, Sondergaard was part of the first-team squad which travelled on a pre-season trip to Switzerland last summer.

He has also represented Denmark at several age levels, most recently at under-18 level.

Scott Sellars, Wolves academy’s head of player development, said: “Andreas is making great progress. He only turned 18 on Thursday and has played great for the under-23s for almost a year now.

“We think he’s got a lot of potential. He’s very good with his feet and technically he’s as good as anyone I’ve seen for a long time in terms of his distribution.

“It’s good to see he’s still developing, he’s still growing and gives good protection, making important saves in his games.

“But now he’s signed to the club for an extended period, it’s our job to make sure he reaches his full potential and give him an opportunity to develop.

“A lot of our young players are progressing well towards the first-team in terms of training regularly and getting that opportunity.

“Rui Barbosa, our first-team goalkeeper coach, knows Andreas well and likes him, so it’s a positive deal for all involved.”

Sondergaard has made 13 league appearances for Wolves under-23s this campaign, helping the side to keep four clean sheets.
