Jon Dadi Bodvarsson set to leave Wolves for Reading

The popular Icelandic international is moving to the Royals on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

Ipswich were also interested but wanted a loan deal, with Wolves preferring to sell.

Striker Bodvarsson joined Wolves last summer and started well, scoring on his debut at Rotherham and then again at Blues a few weeks later.

But thereafter he badly struggled for goals, not scoring until April for a final total of three goals in 42 appearances, with 20 of those coming from the bench.

He remained a popular figure with supporters for his whole-hearted performances leading the line on his own up front.

Bodvarsson was given an extended summer break after playing two years of almost continuous football and having repeatedly stated last season he needed to refresh his batteries.

However, it seems 25-year-old Bodvarsson’s face doesn’t fit under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wolves were looking to recoup at least the £1million they paid when buying him from Kaiserslautern last summer, but the precise fee isn't yet known.

That leaves Nouha Dicko, Joe Mason and Bright Enobakhare as the club’s three recognised senior strikers.
