The 26-year-old former Portugal youth international worked under Nuno at Rio Ave. He had previously been at Benfica before leaving on a free transfer in 2013. Reports in Portugal suggest Wolves will pay £2.6million for the 6ft 3in centre half, a client of Jorge Mendes, and the deal could be wrapped up in the next week.

Miranda was part of the Rio Ave team that reached two Portuguese domestic cup finals in 2014, Nuno's last season at the club before he moved to Valencia. He has made 74 appearances for Rio Ave, scoring four goals.

Wolves are expected to bring in at least two centre halves this summer after the departures of Mike Williamson on a free transfer and Richard Stearman, whose loan deal from Fulham expired.

Meanwhile the make-up of new boss Nuno's backroom team could be revealed on Wednesday when the boss is announced as Paul Lambert's successor.

However it's understood that Phil Neville, who worked with the 43-year-old at Valencia, won't be part of Nuno's team.

Nuno, who left Portuguese side Porto last week, arrives with an impressive CV from his five-year managerial career.

The former Deportivo and Porto goalkeeper landed his first job in 2012 with Portuguese top-flight side Rio Ave. He guided them to two domestic cup finals in 2013/14 and a place in the Europa League for the first time in the club’s history.

From there Nuno joined Spanish giants Valencia in 2014. Under the 43-year-old they finished fourth in La Liga but he resigned in November 2015 with them ninth in the table.

Nuno rejoined Porto at the start of this season, finishing second and reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.
