The former Middlesbrough boss, who led the club to the Premier League before his sacking this season is the 5/1 favourite following speculation about Lambert's future.

However, despite the speculation surrounding him, Lambert is still 5/6 favourite to be in charge at Molineux on the first day of the Championship season.

Former Leicester City and Derby County boss Nigel Pearson and ex-England manager Steve McClaren are also in contention with the bookies at 8/1.

Meanwhile, Marco Silva is a long-shot according to the bookmakers, currently available at 20/1 following Hull City's relegation to the Championship.

Other contenders for the role include current Huddersfield boss David Wagner (10/1), Leeds manager Garry Monk (12/1) and former Norwich boss Alex Neil (20/1).

Names including Ryan Giggs (33/1), Claudio Ranieri (50/1) and Alan Pardew (33/1) can also be found at a larger price.

Paul Lambert spoke publicly for the first time since reports broke that his future is unlikely to be at Molineux on Sky, claiming that there's no rift at Molineux and that he'll be staying in charge for next season.

The Express & Star understands however, that Wolves are already on the lookout for Lambert's successor.
