Wolves Fan of the Season reveals how his love for the club started

Dylan Stevens was not born in Wolverhampton and none of his family are from the area, so why does he support Wolves?

He was born and raised in Gorton, Manchester, and toyed with the idea of being a red, or a blue.

His dad, Alan, followed City and his friends were fans of United – but Dylan craved something unique.

“My dad was born near City’s ground (Maine Road) so I used to go there. Then I supported United a bit with my friends but, for some reason, I wanted something a bit different,” he said.

“I used to read these magazines I used to get as a kid, and this name kept popping up in the scores from around ‘86 or ‘87 – Steve Bull.

“I just kept seeing Bull, Andy Mutch and Robbie Dennison.

“Then I saw pictures of them, with their Wolves tops on, and I thought ‘they are a bit different’.

“They won the league too in ‘88, the old Fourth Division, so I think I am a bit of a glory hunter.”

Dylan’s first Wolves game certainly sticks out, with Bull scoring four goals in less than half an hour as they won 4-1 at Newcastle on January 1, 1990.

“I started work at 16 on the railway, as a bricklayer, there was a lad who supported Newcastle – he was two years older,” he said.

“He said ‘We play you on New Years Day’, so I went up with him in the car. I was in the Newcastle end and Wolves won 4-1, with Steve Bull getting all four.

“I thought to myself ‘I’ll have a bit of this’ and I went to my first game at Molineux in February 1990.

“I did not know where Wolverhampton was, how to get to the ground, I didn’t know anything really.

“We won that (2-1 against Ipswich) and that gave me the confidence for the rest of that season.”

He added: “Working for the railway, I used to get free travel. Then I started doing it on my own, going home and away – I was hooked and I stuck with it.”
