The 17-year-old's capture was expected to be a formality when the transfer window re-opened, having joined on loan in November.

The Bristol-born teenager has cost Wolves an undisclosed fee, which could rise long-term through appearance-based add-on clauses.

Wilson was highly-rated by Rovers and had made the first-team bench on several occasions, having came through the club's youth set-up.

He will now join up with Wolves' Under-18 squad for the foreseeable future, but has also been making sporadic appearances for the Under-21s.

He said: "I'm happy to be at the club and it's going to be a great experience for me. I've been at Rovers since I was seven or eight and really enjoyed it.

"When an opportunity like this comes along, you have to take it and I am ready to do my best. When I came here and saw the facilities and met the coaches, it was a very easy decision to take.

"I was on the bench a few times for the first-team at Rovers, but never got on to make my debut. Now I hope, with this opportunity, I can really continue to develop and improve."

Wilson now feels he can settle at Wolves, with the deal and dusted, and hopes to establish himself as a speedy attacker with the age groups.

He said: "The lads here have made me feel very welcome and I've been here a good few weeks. I'm a striker or a winger, quite quick, like to try and take people on - I just enjoy playing football.

"So far I've played a few games for the Under-18s, and a couple for the 21s, having mainly come off the bench. For the rest of the season, I'm aiming to settle in and score some goals and get stronger.

"I want to do as well as I can and then, in the long-term, it's about trying to break into the first team."
