Callum McGregor has nothing to prove, insists Wolves' Kenny Jackett

Kenny Jackett today insisted Wolves target Callum McGregor has nothing to prove on Saturday as he warned Notts County have fresh hope in their survival battle.

Celtic attacking midfielder McGregor was the subject of £750,000 interest from Wolves in the January transfer window.

But the 20-year-old, who has scored 13 goals for County this season, is set to line up against them after the Hoops agreed to extend his loan with the Magpies for the rest of the campaign.

"I don't think he'll have a particular point to prove," said head coach Jackett.

"He's been out looking for some experience and has settled there like Jack Grealish has from Villa.

"They've used the loan market very well."

Jackett was at Meadow Lane on Saturday after Wolves' game at Stevenage was called off to watch their 3-0 win against Coventry, which moved County to within a place and point of the safety line in League One.

"It was a good game, on a hell of a pitch as they play some rugby there," he said.

"But Notts County played well and deserved their 3-0 win.

"They had got themselves out of the bottom four even though before Saturday they'd lost three on the trot.

"But that win has given them hope."

Jackett is expecting a test from some seasoned campaigners this weekend.

"They've taken some experienced players - Gareth Roberts and Hayden Mullins, and Alan Sheehan was back there," he said.

"James Spencer has gone there from Huddersfield and scored on his debut so there are a few new players, as you'd expect with a new manager.

"We had a very good game with them in the first game at Meadow Lane, and it will be a tough one."

County have become a more uncompromising outfit under Neil Warnock 'disciple' Shaun Derry.

And Jackett is expecting a similar game to what he envisaged the battle against Stevenage before it was postponed.

"It's not going to be very different because they're fighting for their lives like Stevenage," said the boss. "All of the sides are scrapping away.

"Look at the relegation situation, Bristol City and Sheffield United are both big clubs and they're still in the bottom four.

"It's very tight down there with everybody fighting for their lives.

"With four to go down it takes the battle a little bit further up the table as well."
