The achievement has lit up the home of the All Blacks and now Wood is dreaming that his All Whites, as the football team are nicknamed, can come out of the hat in the same group as England at next month's draw.

Wood said: "I'm looking forward to the draw," says Wood. "It would be good to get one of the other Baggies boys, but most of all I'd love to draw England.

"It's hard to imagine being on the pitch with the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard at a major tournament. They're all world-class players.

"New Zealand were ranked 100th in the world before we qualified, while everyone else seems to be ranked in the top 40. We're a big outsider and it's a great achievement for all of us to be going to a World Cup."

The striker is making big strides this season and has become a darling of the Hawthorns crowd.

But Wood remains level-headed and even volunteered to play with his youth team pals in front of a handful of fans at Albion's training ground, before flying out to take part in the biggest game of his career.
