The Baggies have added former Sunderland man Gordon to a summer transfer watchlist that also includes Rangers' Alan McGregor, West Ham's Rob Green, Blackburn's Paul Robinson and Bolton veteran Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Birmingham were still awaiting an official approach from The Hawthorns today over Chris Hughton, with the Blues boss still the clear favourite to succeed Roy Hodgson as head coach.
But even as their pursuit of a new boss continues, Albion are drawing up a list of possible recruits.
And filling their goalkeeping vacancy remains a top priority after Foster's successful season-long loan from Birmingham.
The Baggies' preference remains a permanent deal for the ex-England man, but they are unwilling to pay over the odds and are lining up alternatives with Gordon the latest to be thrown into the mix.
Gordon, aged 29, became Britain's most expensive goalkeeper in 2007 when he joined Sunderland from Hearts for £9m, but the last three years have seen him hampered by injuries and he was released on a free transfer at the weekend.
