The Foxes may come to The Hawthorns as front-runners but Albion will provide them with arguably their sternest test of the season.

The Baggies go into the game on the back of eight clean sheets in 13 games, with five of those coming in the last seven outings.

And that defensive solidity is going to be key for Albion according to Carlos Corberan, against one of the division’s most potent strike forces, with only Ipswich having scored more than the Foxes this season.

Asked about his side’s recent clean sheet record, Corberan said: “I think there are many different ways to achieve this, no? If you see right now Leicester is the team that has conceded less goals in the competition, I think only 10 goals.

“They don’t defend! They attack. The keeper doesn’t make saves, the keeper makes passes because he’s (like) a midfielder or centre-back! So there are many types of ways to compete well and you need to find your way.

“Our way, for me, is the more we attack the less we need to defend. But when we defend we need to defend well. We need to be solid because if you’re not then you’re not going to win football games.

“But Leicester have conceded less goals than us – and they are in a better position with more points, so we cannot compare. I think they have been the best team in the league – it is going to be a massive challenge for us.

“Of course we want to improve our team in attack and defence because I value a lot everything the players are doing.”

Albion’s recent form has propelled them into a solid play-off contender after an up-and-down start to the season.

Corberan’s men have now put together seven wins in their last 10 games heading into the clash with the Foxes. And the Baggies boss believes a lot of their turnaround in fortunes stems from the better connections they have been making, and how comfortable they now look playing with a back four.

He added: “In football every game is a new challenge, so it’s true we have achieved positive results in different scenarios but in the end the Championship demands you to keep improving every day because the level of competition is very high.

“I watched the team more stable with a better connections. I think we grow in defence in general.

“At the beginning I didn’t see the team comfortable with a (defensive) line of four, that’s why we changed to a line of five. I think the team is now more comfortable playing with a line of four.

“I see the team growing in attack and Tuesday was a new type of challenge with what we do in attack, we need to improve when the other team is in a more low or medium block.”

Albion are sweating on the fitness of skipper Jed Wallace, who went off injured at Cardiff.
