West Brom still await EFL correspondence after controversial points deduction

Albion have made their stance clear.

Albion have yet to receive written reasoning from the English Football League a week on from their controversial points deduction.

The Baggies managed to secure Championship safety thanks to a 10-match unbeaten run under James Morrison, who was this week appointed permanent boss, regardless of the two-point deduction.

The club were found to have breached profit and sustainability limits following a two-day hearing last Friday, but Albion disagreed with the outcome and questioned the timing and the fact no written reasons had been received or publicised.

The Baggies delivered on their vow to settle the matter, related to funding of the club’s community charity, ‘on the pitch’ but reserved their right to appeal. Seven days later the wait for further clarity goes on.

Executive director Mark Miles told the Express & Star: "Not a lot has changed since (last) Friday - we don't agree with the judgement that came out.

"We believe we have fully complied with the rules.

"We still await written confirmation, we will go through it and once we've got that we can assess where it is.

"It's credit to James and the rest of the staff that the point they got us on the pitch and the points beforehand has meant the punishment had no material difference on our season."

Albion close the curtain on a largely forgettable season at bottom side Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday - with the Hillsborough club set to officially confirm their takeover and a new era in South Yorkshire.

Albion hope the appointment of Morrison on a two-year deal will prove the dawn of a new era at The Hawthorns with owners Bilkul making a fourth head coach appointment in a little over two years at the helm.

Miles added of the mood around the EFL’s points sanction: "I think it's probably been a stressful season all the way through! So nothing more than that.

"We were prepping for it and responded to requests we had, but there's not a lot else we can say."
