West Brom player ratings as late show enough to see off Rayo Vallecano

Albion reporter Lewis Cox rates the performances as Ryan Mason's side end their friendly schedule with a fine comeback win against the visitors from Spain.

Josh Griffiths

Calm and composed and did not put a foot wrong until bad error allowed hosts to open the scoring. Mad a strong late save to keep it at 3-2, however. 5

Darnell Furlong

Decent display from the right-back who was in and out of the action but by and large defended well. One or two neat balls from his position but Albion's right was well shackled. 6

Nat Phillips

An accomplished display from Albion's new recruit. Little seemed to faze Phillips, who did the basics very well and looked physically imposing. 7

Torbjorn Heggem

A whirlwind 24 hours for the Norwegian defender, for whom Albion are negotiating with Bologna over a possible £10million move. A surprise he was involved, but he defended well when required. 6

Callum Styles

All-action once again from the forward-thinking left-back. Styles was eager to support the threatening Johnston and put in some decent deliveries. One or two dangerous moments of letting the ball bounce. 7

Tom Fellows

Did not quite deliver as the outlet Albion wanted. Was very well shackled by impressive left-back Chavarria, who kept Fellows quiet throughout. 6

Jayson Molumby

Just his second friendly of the summer after serving the suspension but got a good workout here. Involved in some decent moments for his side and stunning goal for 1-1. 7

Alex Mowatt

Got around the park in a tough assignment in dealing with a lively Vallecano midfield. He and Molumby played 90 minutes with a lack of senior options. Steady performance from Mowatt, who tried to get Albion playing where he could. 6

Mikey Johnston

Has been extremely positive from the bench in pre-season and deserved this start. Was a lively and direct threat on left, had one effort off target and another tested Cardenas. 7

Karlan Grant

Played in the support striker role off frontman Heggebo. Grew as the contest went on and became more involved. Some gutsy runs. Cool finish for 2-1. 7

Aune Heggebo

Those 5,000 or so fans inside The Hawthorns liked what they saw. A performance of heart, persistence, and energy showed he will be popular. Some powerful runs and hold-up play. Technical bits need a sharpen, but otherwise very good. 7

Substitutes

Isaac Price (Johnston, 71) A surprise omission from the starting XI as Johnston had his chance but Price was nothing but class for 20 minutes. Involved in one goal, scored another emphatically. Has to start, surely? 7

George Campbell (Styles, 71) For the second time in Baggies colours came on in unfamiliar left-back role. Looked a very powerful athlete and a willing runner forward. 7

Jed Wallace (Fellows, 76) Set up Price's goal for third and might have scored himself but was denied for Grant to turn home. Busy. 7

Caleb Taylor (Phillips, 76) Late defensive change less involved as Albion attacked to try to see out contest. 6

Subs not used: Wildsmith, Frabotta, Deeming, Whitwell, Cole.
