'Sometimes emotions get the better of us' - West Brom's Isaac Price opens up on season's challenges

Attacker has endured a mixed bag for Albion in his first full season at the club.

Albion’s Isaac Price admitted emotion can get the better of footballers in difficult times but more often than not he believes it shows individuals care.

Northern Ireland international Price has been a star of the Baggies’ revival and push for Championship safety under James Morrison.

It is a long way from some of the dark days of the season under Morrison’s predecessors Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay.

Under the latter in late January Albion were heavily beaten by Norwich and Portsmouth 5-0 and 3-0 respectively and tempers flared among supporters, with Price involved in a heated exchange with supporters at the end of the Fratton Park defeat. Fans also unleashed their ire at players after a limp defeat at Oxford in Morrison’s opener.

Price, who has scored in three of the last four home games, said: “I think fans get frustrated when the team isn't doing well and players get frustrated as well.

“Nobody wants to keep losing and not getting results and it's really difficult.

“But I think it all comes from a place of passion and really the frustration of knowing we shouldn't be here but we are here.

“Sometimes emotions get the better of us, I feel like as footballers sometimes you can't show your emotion, you get judged for that.

“But I think if we didn't care we wouldn't show any emotion, so I think it just shows that we care.”

Price, 22, is up to nine goals for the campaign for Albion, all in league action, after netting in the 3-0 win over Watford. He is into double-figures including a solitary strike for Northern Ireland, who recently missed out on World Cup qualification.

Striker Aune Heggebo is also on nine Championship goals for the campaign, but 10 in all competitions including an EFL Cup strike.

Former Everton youngster Price has, like colleagues, endured a stop-start campaign. He hit the heights in the early weeks of the campaign but struggled to have an impact in a difficult winter.

The attacking midfielder moved to The Hawthorns in a £2.5million deal from Standard Liege in Belgium in January 2025 and is coming to an end of his first full season as a regular in English football.

“I think you're always learning,” he said. “I think this season I've definitely learned a lot, probably more than any season that I've had.

“It's all positives really, even when it's going bad you're learning. I think the different positions you play, obviously when it's going bad you learn how to deal with that sort of stuff.

“When it's going good you've got to learn how to deal with that as well, because even when it's going well you can't get too high.

“I wouldn't say it's been a good season, but I think I've learned a lot from this season.”
