West Brom entertainment value at The Hawthorns 'ranked' - see where Baggies finished

There has been a lot of talk about the price of live football tickets - mainly due to the soaring World Cup cost

Albion fans endured a distressing 2025/26 campaign that for several months appeared doomed for relegation.

Green shoots of positivity were few and far between as Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay’s tenures badly struggled and were ended with dismissals.

James Morrison was left to pull a rabbit out of the hat at the 11th hour and did so via a brilliant 10-match unbeaten run.

One of the desperate frustrations of the season was form away from The Hawthorns.

The Baggies went from October 1 to March 21 without a win on their league travels - a barren run of 15 matches.

Things were ever so slightly more encouraging at The Hawthorns, but not by enough to drag the club clear of the lower reaches.

Researchers at Betway have crunched the numbers on home entertainment factor determined by goals scored across the season at each ground.

A cost of clubs’ most expensive season ticket was divided by the number of goals seen at a stadium to work out a price per goal average.

How do the Baggies rank?

Unsurprisingly, due to the superior home form, the goalscoring entertainment ranking at The Hawthorns far outdoes the club’s Championship finish of 21st.

Albion sit healthily in mid-table with a finish of 11th in this metric.

It comes after a total of 53 goals were witnessed in the 23 league games at The Hawthorns last term.

They were 28 in Albion’s favour and 25 goals conceded.

The season ticket used was £519 - the top-end price for adult supporters sitting in the East and West Stand upper.

With those figures, Albion average out at £9.79 per goal - just sneaking into the division’s top half and under £10 per goal at home.

It comes as no surprise the club’s home ‘entertainment’ value is better off than the dismal overall standing, given the Baggies sat 12th in the home form table last season.

Away from The Hawthorns, the club were third-bottom with just five wins from 23 games, above only related pair Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford.

A home total of 28 goals was not especially impressive and had the Baggies down at 18th.

And how did other clubs fare?

Stoke, who finished 17th overall, topped the charts coming out at just £5.55 per goal.

That is chiefly down to the affordable season ticket price of £344 at the Bet365 Stadium, where 62 goals were scored last term.

The maths also included next season’s Championship new boys - promoted League One trio Bolton, Cardiff and Lincoln.

Other sides making up the affordability higher reaches for entertainment are Swansea (£6.55 per goal), Wrexham (£6.65), Sheffield United (£7.87) and Preston (£8.10) in the top six.

The other end of the reckoning saw ‘spygate’ scandal side Southampton fans stump up big cash per goal at St Mary’s.

Tonda Eckert’s side, recently kicked out of the play-offs after spying on several opponents including promotion rivals Hull, were at £15 per goal scored at their south coast home.
